Winterizing Your Pipes

Winterizing Your Pipes

With the cold weather that has recently blown in, it is time to make sure your pipes are ready for these temperatures! Pipes can burst and cause lots of expensive damage to your home and lawn care systems. Here at Huffman Landscape & Irrigation, we want to ensure that your pipes are protected. We’ll share a few tips with you on how to protect your pipes and systems during the cold seasons.

One of the most important things to do is to drain all of your outdoor faucets and sprinkler systems to ensure there is no water in the pipes to freeze. Don’t forget to disconnect any hoses and store them in the garage or shed. Once the faucets are all drained, cover them with foam insulators as a layer of protection from the cold!

Despite some of the pipes being inside the house, they can still become frozen if they aren’t insulated. You can easily insulate these pipes with some supplies from a hardware or plumbing supply store. Use insulation tubes made out of polyethylene or fiberglass and if you want an extra layer of protection, wrap the pipes in heat-tape before installing the insulation tubes!

Don’t forget to leave all of your faucets on just enough to drip and remember to stay warm!
